Marijn Cinjee (30-06-1995) Is a composer, sound artist and designer exploring the intersection between art, science and technology. He is an established researcher of interactive and immersive audio for art and research projects, and use his findings to create bespoke experiences for applications such as art installations, virtual reality, research, film, and his autonomous music concerts.
BIOGRAPHY
COMPOSITION WORK
Marijn Cinjee is a creator of electronic ambient & classical electroacoustic music. His primary objective lies in crafting immersive experiences that transport audiences to new and captivating realms. He doesn't seek to define what people should feel when encountering his work; rather, his goal is to evoke emotions and sensations from within. To achieve this, he starts with grounded, real-world sounds and gradually morphs them into abstracted, otherworldly elements. This process subtly guides the listener on a subconscious journey from the familiar reality to an internal mental space.
With this innovative approach, Cinjee aims to forge a profound emotional connection between the listener, the creator, and the shared environment. Through his compositions, he endeavors to manipulate one's perception of time and space, striving to make these mental transitions as impactful as possible, creating an enduring, timeless experience.
Furthermore, Cinjee has cultivated a deep fascination with sounds born solely from movement itself, resulting in peculiar physical reactions and adding a captivating layer to the act of listening.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ON SPATIAL SOUND AND ART
Marijn Cinjee is dedicated to crafting innovative, multi-sensory experiences. In pursuit of his artistic visions, he remains committed to the ongoing development of cutting-edge technologies, continuously striving to enhance the quality of the experiences he creates.
"Technology serves as a tool, no more, no less. However, I frequently encounter situations where the existing tools fail to deliver the results I seek, prompting me to innovate and craft new solutions."
Notable examples of long-term research projects in which Marijn Cinjee has played a key role as technology developer and content creator:
He designed and developed the 42.2 Genelec Multispeaker installation for Tilburg University's DAF Technology lab. Providing custom software to drive an immersive holographic sound experience directly from platforms like Unity3D and Unreal Engine with virtually unlimited numbers of loudspeakers.
Besides technical research, he is now shifting his attention toward revolutionizing the way we make content for immersive audio systems.
Marijn Cinjee is an active board member of 4DSOUND Technologies where he works very closely with different artists to come up with creative new immersive listening experiences. He is involved in designing the creative workflow with Ableton Live, and the front-end software design. He is also the Technical spatial engineer of 4DSOUND, and a content creator for the company.
Naturalis Biodiversity Center | Evolution
This project sets a very clear example of how art, science and technology can come together. A full year of research in collaboration with Naturalis Biodiversity Center went into this project to design the interaction with a 3.7 billion year old stone.
EDUCATION
Marijn Cinjee graduated from the University of the Arts Utrecht in 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in Music and Technology, with a specialization in Composition and Electronic Sound Design. Following that, he pursued a Master's degree in Immersive Audio Design (MMUS), which he completed in 2023. In parallel, he delved into computer programming, acquiring essential skills to support his custom software development endeavors. After graduating, he focused on developing is own works.
